2-22 Sainte-Catherine Street East and the adjacent vacant lot will be transformed into a cultural landmark of Montreal's downtown.
The Quartier des spectacles Partnership applauds the decision of the City to expropriate the building 2-22 Sainte-Catherine Street East, previously designated as a reserved area. Since the vision of the Partnership was presented in June 2004, the intersection of Saint-Laurent and Sainte-Catherine has been identified as a priority intervention. "I hope that this will be a landmark building that signals the renewal of this corner of the City. I am quite happy that we will now be able to resolve this rapidly" explained Ville-Marie Borough mayor Benoît Labonté. This move aims to change the image of a rundown site at the neighbourhood's heart, the intersection of the "Mains", and to accelerate the revitalization of this crucial downtown intersection.
