SEPTEMBER IN THE JARDINS GAMELIN
Communiqué de presse | Pour diffusion immédiate
Montreal, August 26, 2015 – Summer is ending soon, but Les Jardins Gamelin will stay open until October 4! The month of September features something special for everyone who loves dance, with the Quartiers Danse contemporary dance festival presenting pieces by young choreographers outdoors in Place Émile-Gamelin. The Festival international de la littérature, after last year’s successful Bibliothèque du FIL on the Quartier des Spectacles Parterre, is moving its books and literary activities to Les Jardins Gamelin. Also new is a series of UQAM mini-lectures about work and the social economy, and a farmers’ market with the best of the fall harvest.
Throughout September and until October 4, Les Jardins Gamelin continues its packed program of activities, giving Montrealers a rich and entertaining space to enjoy seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
QUARTIERS DANSES
Starting from the idea that dance is a universal language that can speak to everyone, the festival invites emerging artists and established contemporary choreographers to present first works and works in progress. September 11 and 15, at lunchtime, come see work from Anne-Flore de Rochambeau, Lilianne Moussa, and [ZØGMA] Collectif de folklore urbain., among others.
FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE LA LITTÉRATURE
Along with an open-air library where the public can consult hundreds of works, a team of literature and culture mavens from the Exeko organization will be onsite, to host events such as games created by two design students from UQAM. Spontaneous readings, yoga-readings, lectures and literary recommendations, tours of the artworks in the Jardins, a literary “musical chairs” game, a choir…, FIL library is a fun, creative event for everyone. September 25 to October 4.
UQAM MINI-LECTURES
Every Thursday from August 27 to September 17 at 5:30 p.m., UQAM and Nouveau Projet magazine present a series of short lectures (in French) co-produced by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership. What is a transitional entrepreneur? Is social entrepreneurship a utopian idea? Who do we work for? What motivates us? These are the four topics to be addressed by professors Annie Camus and Jacques Forest, among other speakers (see annex for complete details).
Marché fermier des Jardins
Sunday, September 6 and 20 and October 4, local producers will be onsite to sell their organic, artisanal and local products and produce at the Jardins farmers’ market. Presented by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership in collaboration with UQAM and GRIP-UQAM (Groupe de recherche d’intérêt public), the farmers’ market encourages people to eat local, healthy, affordable food. Above all, it is a chance for consumers to meet farmers who respect the environment. There will be a dozen stalls with seasonal products on each market day, including some surprises and discoveries.
LES AUTRES RENDEZ-VOUS DU MOIS DE SEPTEMBRE
Dance is back on the program every Monday at noon with RISE BEAT, while Alors on danse continues to present its Monday night swing lessons. At 7 p.m. every Wednesday, the ever-popular Latin dance lessons will return, with up to 300 people dancing salsa under the stars! Andy Williams, DJ of The Goods Soundsystem, returns every Thursday at lunchtime and, the same afternoon at 5 p.m., some of the hottest music producers will introduce audiences to their world with the Soirées à Pelland.
