A desire to convey a legacy was the starting point for an art project that exists between selection, destruction, remembrance and interpretation. In our family cottage, I once came upon a large envelope containing letters written by my great-aunt Marguerite. They were addressed to her sister Laurentia, my paternal grandmother. Dated between 1924 and 1946, they came from the United States, Italy, Indochina, Polynesia and France. In our family history, Marguerite's more than twenty-year exile has always fascinated us. We loved recounting her life as a musician and traveller. Some one hundred and fifty hand-written letters tell the story of a journey that was uncommon in its time.
