Orchestre Métropolitain
A major cultural ambassador for Quebec, the Orchestre Métropolitain (OM) has forged a unique bond with Montreal audiences, whether at the Maison symphonique de Montréal or throughout the metropolis, thanks to the Conseil des Arts de Montréal, on tour or with free concerts in parks. Since it was founded in 1981, the OM’s mission has been to awaken children’s interest in music, cultivate a passion for music in young people and support up-and-coming musicians. For more than twenty years, it has been growing alongside its principal conductor and artistic director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. This shared vision of the OM and its conductor led them to join forces for a lifetime contract, an truly exceptional arrangement in the history of music. The OM is involved in numerous cultural and educational initiatives, including school activities, the OMNI music competition and the Académie de direction d’orchestre, which enables Yannick Nézet-Séguin to pass on his art to the next generation of conductors.
