Known to all Montrealers for its strategic location near to the Berri-UQAM metro station, Place Émilie-Gamelin is an important downtown hub. Its grassy upward slope welcomes city dwellers wanting to chill out, and its flat southern surface is a multifaceted space as much for cultural events as for providing marginalized populations with various services. The site features the artwork Gratte-ciel, cascades d'eau / rues, ruisseau... built by artist Melvin Charney and illuminated since 2014.
At the height of summer, Place Émilie-Gamelin turns into an ephemeral setting teeming with culture and urban agriculture: it becomes the Jardins Gamelin. In winter, the square is home to the Glissades Gamelin, an urban snowboarding facility.
A PLACE THAT’S ALIVE ALL SUMMER AND WINTER LONG!
An ephemeral space set up every summer on Place Émilie-Gamelin, Jardins Gamelin takes the form of a large green terrace complete with a snack bar, giant games, and the urban agriculture installations of the Sentier Urbain organization. Every day, from noon to evening, a rich cultural program livens up the area. The Jardins Gamelin vibrate to the rhythm of up-and-coming musicians and echo the artistic and cultural diversity of Montreal, in addition to hosting various summer festivals.
